Whenever you go on a vacation it is hard to know where to go to, what hotel to stay at and all of that. It would be nice if there was a place you could find that would tell you all the places not to go. Like what is a waste of time and money! Wisconsin Dells is a great tourist city full of theme parks, water parks and many other exciting attractions. But I have been to some pretty cheesy attractions here. Well I am going to let you know about a few attractions I have been to in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin, that you can just save your money at.
Basically all haunted houses!
I have been to quite a few of them and they are not worth the money at all! I have not found one yet that was worth the money. Some of them only cost a few bucks to get in but you can do yourself a favor and not spend it.
One of them I have been to was called the Ghost Out-Post Haunted House. Yeah it looks really cool from the outside with skulls, an out car and other creepy props, but in the inside it is a different story. That is true with most attractions at the Dells.
The first room you walk into has a man in the execution chair as a tape of screams is being played in the background. All I saw was smoke from a fog machine and flashing lights.
Then along the rest of the way there are more cheap sound effects and flashing lights, a few rubber fake rats with blood on them, and other low cost props. Scared? Yeah scared I lost $8.00 that I couldn’t get back for paying to walk through this place!
The other one I went to was located downtown and called the Haunted Mansion. All I can say is yawn! I think it took us only 3 minutes to walk through here and it cost us $6! Here was the same thing as the other place.
Cheap sound effects, very fake looking props, and bright flashing lights. The music did scare me at one point because it was completely dark, then a loud noise kicked in. I would rather have my husband sneak up behind me and scare me!
Top Secret Attraction
Do not go here at all! This is the white house that is flipped upside down and has crashed into the ground. Then the story is that the aliens are taking over and have turned the president into a robot.
The only thing that was funny was the first room. Here on the ceiling they had the desk with Bill Clinton sitting at it talking. Then under the desk you could see a pair of lady’s legs hanging out.
Then the tour guide rushes you through the rest of the rooms because it is all “Top Secret” and we aren’t supposed to be in there. But as he is running he is talking yet and we can hardly hear him.
Then in one of the last rooms, they weave you through some crates and tell you to stay low as it sounds like paintball guns being fired off dry. So it is loud and very annoying.
Trust me, save your $12 on this one! I was attracted to the place because the outside looked really cool. Boy was I wrong!
The Wonder Spot
They probably call it that because people wonder why they spent money to see it!
This is a building that was built on a hill. So when you walk around it looks like the building is straight but you are standing at an angle. Wow, a lot of fun here. Then they swing a few objects hanging from the ceiling to show you what happens.
The only cool thing about it is that you get come really cool pictures here of yourself standing at an angle. But that is about it. Once again, don’t waste your time or money.
This is a place where you can meet different characters from different stories from your childhood.
All I saw were animals in small cages and a few characters that weren’t very motivated to work in costume in the hot sun. Then all of the statues and storybook scenes we not kept up well at all. Paint was starting to come off of them; they were starting to break etc…
And the whole area was really dirty. The bathrooms weren’t the cleanest and there was litter on the ground. It was really sad to see. They need to shut this place down. It is not amusing at all.
Overall watch what you spend your money on in the Dells. Use it on the water and theme parks or the boat ducks rides or miniature golf. They have so many great attractions. Usually it is the smaller attractions that are downtown as you are walking around that are a waste of money and try to lure you in. If it looks cheesy from the outside, stay away. Like I said stick with all the water park fun and you won’t fall into the waste of money trap.
