Top New Apple iPhone Rumors
Eco-minded tech folks who love their iPhones are wondering if solar-power is in the iPhone’s future. The rumor has been covered by The New York Times, The Times Online (UK) and picked by The Huffington Post.
Apple has filed a patent related to solar technology. The patent is for “integrating solar cells into portable devices by placing them underneath the layers of a touch-sensitive display,” according to The New York Times and the patent filing.
The combination of the solar cells and touch-sensitive displays could be used in the iPhone, or in the iPod Touch, or any future Apple devices which use touch technology.
The patent has not yet been awarded, according to The Times Online (UK). While this is a likely upgrade for the new iPhone, it may not be a feature of the next iPhone if the next iPhone comes out in 2008. The solar feature may be for a later model.
If new iPhones go solar-powered, consumers will benefit from even greater portability and extended battery time.
3G Network iPhone
A 3G network would make the web browsing features of the new iPhone smoother and faster. AT&T has a 3G network, aka, the third generation of wireless networks.
June 2008 Release
Likelihood: Medium to High
While many news outlets are reporting the “expected June release,” you just never know with Apple. Mac OS X Leopard was delayed, so it’s hard to say when the new iPhone will be released.
Ideally, it would be great marketing for Apple make announcements about the new models iPhones at the Apple Worldwide Developer’s Conference scheduled for June 9-13, 2008 in San Francisco, California.
Color, Color, Color
Why wouldn’t Apple offer more color options on the new iPhone? The rest of Apple’s hand-held devices started off in black or white before they were released in fun colors.
There is a leaked advertisement showing the new iPhone colors in white, black, and and deep scarlet red. This was reported by Uberphones.com. Intomobile.com also picked up the color iPhone story.
Likelihood: Low to Medium
There are “leaked” screenshots from supposedly new iPhone software which indicate geo-tagging will be built into the iPhone’s camera application. Some are saying these screenshots are fake
The Geo-tagging iPhone rumor has been covert by Gizmodo, The Gadget Blog, and Appletell.com
The jury is out on whether this rumor, based on supposedly leaked screenshots is true. While geo-tagging for the 3G iPhone is not that far-fetched, the origination of the screenshots is too questionable at this time.
According to Apple, the beta version of the iPhone™ 2.0 software, scheduled for release this June. Soon we will know if this feature is included.
