Though these cupcakes would be great for summer, they’d be good any other time of the year as well. I like decorating my own cupcakes for two reasons. The first being is that it’s fun to cook up your own little creation and two, to see the smiles on the faces of the people who will be eating them. Adults and children alike are charmed by cute little cupcakes, and they enjoy eating them even more. This article will give directions on how to make your own stand out cupcake creations. For any of these recipes, you need your favorite homemade or box cake mix as well as white frosting. For all of these recopies, I recommend freezing your cupcakes after you are done baking them. They are much easier to decorate when they’re frozen.. They defrost quickly and taste just as good as when they come out of the oven.
Three Easy Summer Cupcakes #1: Watermelon Cupcakes
Watermelon cupcakes are amazingly simple, while keeping true to the summer theme. Before starting, you’ll need to make sure you have red food coloring, red sprinkles, frosting decorating tips and green & black icing in a tube. Dye your red frosting. Make sure you use enough red so that it looks close to how a watermelon looks after you split it open. When you’ve achieved the desired redness, frost your cupcake. Then sprinkle with red sprinkles. It gives the effect how of how a watermelon glistens when you’re out enjoying it in the sun. Now take your green frosting and select the flower decorating tip. Make a rim of green all around the top of the cupcake. Now take your black frosting and use a flower or similar decorating tip to do the seeds. I do five seed spots in the pattern of 5 dots on dice (except seed shaped). You don’t want to just squirt your frosting on the cupcake or it won’t look seed like. Start by squeezing the tube of frosting slightly and then smearing it up until you have the desired seed shape. After that, serve and enjoy.
Three Easy Summer Cupcakes #2: Fun at the Beach
For this cupcake idea, you will need those little cocktail umbrellas that are usually stuck in drinks, blue food coloring, graham crackers, little cookies in the shape of teddy bears and fruit rollups (any color). To start, dye your white frosting blue to resemble the ocean. Frost your cupcakes. Ground up several graham crackers also to a fine dust. Carefully sprinkle the crumbs over a little more then half of the cupcake. This is the sand. Now take a fruit roll up and cut it into small towel shape pieces. You’re going to be putting your teddy bear cookie on one piece so that she can rest in the sun while at the beach. Put the small piece of fruit roll up on the graham cracker side of the fruit roll up and push it down so that it will stick to the frosting underneath the graham cracker. Next rub a little frosting on the back of your teddy bear and lay it down right on top of the fruit roll up. Open the umbrella and stick it in next to the sun tanning bear for the finishing touch.
Three Easy Summer Cupcakes #3: Ice Cream Cone Cupcakes
There is nothing like enjoying a nice cool ice cream cone during the summer. Your guests will sure be surprised when they bite into their ice cream cone and discover it’s really a cupcake. You will need ice cream cones, sprinkles and red food coloring. Instead of baking your cupcakes in a liner and pan, set up ice cream cones in a large casserole dish and fill them 2/3 full. They will rise to the top of the cone with a rounded shape. I like having two ice cream colors so I leave half of the frosting white and dye the other half pink (use only a little red). You can use a decorating bag to do an ice cream swirly shape or you can simply frost the tops of your cupcakes with a knife. When you have your frosting the way that you want it, top if off with sprinkles, serve and enjoy.
