World Wrestling entertainment bases itself off of the best wrestling in the world, and when the WWE is not putting on classic one on one matches, they toss in a stipulation match here and there. Some of the most popular stipulation matches include the Steel Cage match, Hell in a Cell, Buried Alive, and the ladder match. The Ladder Match was one of the first and most innovative matches that the WWE introduced and it changed the direction that the WWE was headed in. Here is a look at some of the best ladder matches in the WWE.
Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels: Other than the new Ladder Match DVD, this classic between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels was actually one fo the first ladder matches in the WWE and it did not disappoint. The two started off the match with their wrestling skills and it almost took ten minutes before the ladder wa seven introduced to the ring. Once the ladder was brought inside of the ring, chaos began. Each wrestler started using it as a weapon and when Shawn Michaels was sent flying out of the ring, Bret Hart took advantage and won the match, retaining his Intercontinental Title.
Shawn Michaels vs Razor Ramon: While the Bret Hart vs. Shawn Michaels match was rarely seen, the Wrestlemania X bout between Razor Ramon and Shawn Michaels is one of the most watched and highly reguarded ladder matches. The Intercontinenal title was on the line once again and in a display of great wrestling skills and athletisim, these two put everything they had into their match. Shawn Micheals used the ladder as a leapboard, weapon, and everything else as these two wrestlers tore each other apart in the ring. Shawn Michaels took the loss once again, but it was a classic match that started the ladder evolution in the WWE.
TLC III: The first two tables, ladders, and chairs matches were impressive at Summerslam and Wrestlemania, but adding a fourth team to the mix made for even more violence and carnage in the WWE ring. Chris Beniot went flying out of the ring early with head butt through a table, and a lot more tables were broken throughout this match. The Hardys, Dudleys, Edge and Christian, and Jericho & Beniot, all battled each other until there was no body left standing and many injuries came out of the match. This match was actually broadcast on Smackdown, and was one of Smackdown’s greatest matches ever.
Undertaker vs. Jeff Hardy: Jeff Hardy is one of the greatest performers in a ladder match, but he was in for a huge challenge when he took on the Undertaker in one for the World Heavyweight championship. The Undertaker had never been in a ladder match before and Jeff hardy took advantage of this, pummeling the Undertaker with everything he had, including the ladder. At many points it seemed as if Hardy would get the victory, but a chokeslam off of the ladder ended it and the Undertaker was victorious in this very impressive and unpredictable match.
Money in the Bank Ladder Match: A new Wrestlemania tradition occured with the six man Money in the Bank ladder match. The winner of the match would recieve a WWE title shot anytime they liked and the first one was one of the best. Edge out lasted his other three opponents in a violent spot fest filled with impressive moves by Shelton Benjamin, Chris Jericho, and Kane. Because this match was so good, they have continued it for two more years with very impressive results.
