Often times, hunger seems to lead me to find a place where I can sit down and enjoy a meal. Whether it is a solo thing, a duet, triumvirate or pleiad, I like to be accommodated and like the quality of service to be up to par. But not only that, I like the eye candy that the place has to offer.
Thai Select is a Thai Restaurant that I recently discovered and love the service, ambiance and food offered at this wonderful establishment. Thai Select is located at 472 Ninth Avenue between West 36th Street & West 37th Street in Midtown Manhattan. They are open 7 days a week and serve lunch and dinner.
If you are planning to attend a function at the Jacob Javits Convention Center and feel a bit famished, walk two blocks east and then down 9th Avenue to a pair of glass doors that open to a classic purity of light. Faces beaming and voices ringing with a cordial embrace ready to seat you at one of their many booths separated by the most interesting curtain of art that I’ve ever seen giving you enough breathing room and personal space to make your experience one that you will want to harmonize your time with again. My initial thoughts were that this would be a great date place.
The seats were pretty comfortable. The background music was sophisticated and urban. The lights were dimmed just right and the colors that I was seeing were really subtle. The aura was warm and the aroma smelled delicious. Almost made me want to quaff my food when it finally came looking even more delicious than the mere description featured in the menu.
The waiter/waitress comes to you ready to serve you from a menu featuring a plethora of things to choose from at a decent price for a classy sit down restaurant. The menu features over 20 appetizers including Thai Crabcakes, Grilled Eggplant and Rock Shrimp Tempura. They have a variety of soups, salads and seafood selections. Some dishes are spicy while others aren’t. They even have selections to accommodate vegetarians.
Thai Select has excellent lunch specials offered between the hours of 11:30 AM and 3:30 PM. My favorite is Pad Thai which they describe like a dictionary excerpt as sauteed “sen jun” noodles with brown tofu, egg, bean sprouts, scallions and crushed peanuts in tamarind sauce. So not only do you get a lot of items to choose from, you know exactly what you are getting; Not to mention a lunch special that also comes with either a soup or salad and your choice of meat including chicken, beef, vegetable, tofu or shrimp. They also serve sandwiches and have brown rice.
I noticed that they have a bar and a happy hour in the evenings. And above the bar, they have 2 big screen televisions. Thai Select offers party catering, has free delivery and accepts all major credit cards.
What I liked most about Thai Select was the fast service. The place was filled and yet they were able to personally deal with each customer with a friendly attitude and bring orders out without having to wait for an eternity. And I was loving the silverware, plates and bowls that they used. This truly was a restaurant that wanted me to come back to. And a place that I think tourists would really love if they chose to settle here for a good eat.
Finally, their bathroom was clean, had soap in it and paper towels to dry your hands after washing. It is a very organized establishment and one that I really liked eating at. And when you are finished eating, have paid and are ready to go, as you walk out, they have tooth picks and mints ready to go along with you as you exit with a good impression. I was glad I went there because it was such a cool restaurant of Thai cuisine. One that I choose not to hold in surreptitiously and plan to go back to as often as my craving leads me there.
