Expecting parents really enjoy the experience of receiving a sonogram. Almost as exciting as the procedure itself is the opportunity to share it with family and friends once you leave the doctor’s office. During the sonogram you can elect to take home photographs of the baby that were taken while you are there. These photos, however, fade rather quickly and by the time your child has reached toddling may well be no longer visible. You do not, however, have to consider this par for the course and enjoy them only while they last. There are many things you can to, from simple to elaborate, depending on your personal liking, to preserve them for years to come.
The following list will give you ten ideas to get your creative juices flowing.
One: Quite simply, scan the photograph and create a photograph sized to fit into your baby book. Turning it into a picture will allow you to preserve the memory and putting into the baby book will allow it to remain a part of your child’s history. Most likely your child will enjoy looking back on it when he the time comes for him to start a family of his own (if for no other reason than to marvel at how marvelously technology has advanced).
Two: Create a photograph for framing that you put up until baby is born. You can easily add it to your baby book or family photo album once you replace it when your little guy or gal is born.
Three: Create a keepsake calendar that depicts your pregnancy. You can start with a picture of mom and dad together on month one. The “Congratulations you are going to be parents” step in month two. The sonogram in month three, etc. It is a fun way to remember the year you experienced being pregnant and will preserve your sonogram picture as well. If you have several pictures you can print them all on one calendar page via an online template. These can be created in online photo stores or in traditional photo sections of a store.
Four: Have a jigsaw puzzle created out of your sonogram for a fun way to preserve the special moment.
Five: You can have a t-shirt made from the photo to wear while you are expecting. I have seen this done and thought it was such a cute idea for expressing your joy. The one I saw came from a traditional black and white sonogram photo, but with the evolving technology of 3-D photos, creating one in color is definitely a possibility.
Six: Have a coffee cup made with the picture on it. This is a great idea for a gift to create for the expecting father.
Seven: Create a photo panel to use in a quilt you intend to make later. Quilts made of photo panels are a unique way to preserve memories and are most appreciated by their recipients. Why not add to the element of surprise and individuality by creating a fabric square from the sonogram.
Eight: You can make a baby pillow from the sonogram. These are simply screen printed pillows that are made from a scan of the picture and they are a cute addition to the baby nursery.
Nine: You can create a onesie or a t-shirt for baby that provides a unique twist on the sonogram adventure.
Ten: You can turn multiple photos from the sonogram into a photo cube keepsake. This preserves the sonogram photos and allows for a great conversation piece in the home. You can keep it for yourself or put it in baby’s room.
So while you cannot keep your original sonogram pictures of baby from fading, there are still many ways you can preserve them so that you can enjoy them for years to come. The trick to the most successful projects, is to create them as soon as possible after the pictures have been created. This allows for the reproduction to be at its sharpest. These ten suggestions offer you ideas for preserving one of the greatest moments of your pregnancy or you can use them to spark ideas of your own.
