Yes, I admit, sometimes I get lazy and don’t feel like chopping and peeling and fussing over the stove to get that family meal going. Thankfully Stouffer’s comes in a big enough portions so this lasagna in party size will satisfy my five kids and me and the hubby. I do try to get some type of fresh vegetable for the side, maybe a little salad or so on.
I think this Stouffer’s Lasagna is a great value for the money because you do get 6 pounds of lasagna! And not some pasta shells and a bit of meat, this is meaty and cheesy and messy and just the way my kids love it!
There is mozzarella cheese on top, the REAL Mozzarella cheese, not that salty imitation version. Inside in the pasta sauce there is some cottage cheese crumbles, onions chopped coarse, Parmesan cheese and tomato puree.
This lasagna is not spicy at all, cheese will give it most of the flavor. This is the type of food that will streeeeeetch in your fork, they did not skimp on the cheese!
I usually take the lasagna off from the freezer in the morning and it is mostly thawed out by the time I put it in the oven. They tell you to open the top lid and tilt it so it does not stick to the cheese.
Preheat the oven for 400F and remember to use a cookie sheet under the lasagna so it is easier to take out without a mess! Make sure to cook it thoroughly, thawed takes about 65 minutes in my oven. I wait exactly an hour to remove the lid and leave it then inside the oven for about another 5 minutes. I use the middle rack like instructed on the box.
It is important to remember that you should not store this lasagna thawed in your fridge for longer than two days! They also tell you not to refreeze after cooking.
Side of my box tells me there is 12 servings, serving size 1 cup (215g)
In each serving you’ll get:
Total Fat 10g (15%)
Saturated Fat 6g (30%)
Trans Fat 0g
Cholesterol 35mg (12%)
Sodium 860mg (36%) More than I thought!
Total Carbohydrate 33g (11%)
Dietary Fiber 2g (8%)
Vitamin A 4%
Vitamin C 0%
Yep, not the healthiest choice but beats the Happy Meal! I’ll wait about 10-15 minutes before serving, it is easier to scoop if it is not steaming hot.
You can score some extra points by chopping some fresh parsley and sprinkle it to the top. My husband kicks it up with oregano and red peppers and so on. Usually we all go for seconds but there is still bit left over for the dog so this family dinner is one of the few out there that will actually feed my whole family!
There is also smaller version available and you can find more info at stouffers.com, there is even a store locator where to buy closest to you. You can also call at 1-800-225-1180 or learn more about the company at nestleusa.com. Nestle is located in Solon, Ohio.
Over all I’m glad Stouffer’s offers this dish on large size to make my days a little bit easier at times!
Pros: Jumbo Size, tasty cheese, lots of meat in the sauce!
Cons: It takes a lot of room in my freezer!
The Bottom Line:
Stouffer’s has a good reputation and I’m not ashamed to feed this to my family! Good plain filling food!!
