Lean Pockets are continuing to expand their range of lower fat products. When I came across the new variety of Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets® my curiosity was piqued and I had to try this product out for myself. It cost $2.18 for a pack of two Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets®, which I thought was reasonable. The packaging looked promising and I liked the picture on the front. Although I do not normally judge a product merely by appearance only, I had a feeling that I would enjoy this product as I like the taste of spinach, artichokes and chicken. The product details claimed that this was “A delicious combination of grilled chicken, tender spinach, hearty artichokes, cheese and a creamy sauce.. wrapped inside a tasty herb crust”. But would this product live up to my expectations?
What I really liked about Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets® was the fact that it only took 2 minutes 15 seconds to cook in the microwave. You can also choose to bake Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets® in the oven for 28-30, but I prefer meals that will be ready more quickly. After cooking Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets®, I let it stand for a few minutes before serving it.
I noticed that when I first cut into the crust that it was quite tough. I found this a bit off putting. What if the ingredients were overcooked? Rather than coming across spinach, chicken and artichoke, I had to continue eating more and more of the crust before I found any of the advertised ingredients. The crust disappointed me. It was not the “tasty herb crust” I was expecting. In fact, I could not detect any herbs at all. The ingredients were well cooked and piping hot, but there was so little filling that all I could really taste was crust. By the time I had finished eating, I was full up but it felt as though I had been dining on pizza crust rather than Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets®.
Each 127g piece contains 260 calories, 3g saturated fat, 20mg cholesterol, 590mg sodium, 39g carbohydrate, 2g dietary fibre, 7g sugar and 11g protein. Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets® is lower in fat than regular varieties of Lean Pockets®, but it is high in sodium and carbohydrates, although it is a good source of protein.
After trying Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets® I would have to say that this is a disappointing product. It contained far too much crust and not enough filling. I would not recommend Spinach Artichoke Chicken Lean Pockets®.
