Sebastian Stark is back and he is bad as always. Just when you thought you had seen the seediest and slimiest ‘skeletons’ that Sebastian Stark had hiding in his closet, his past really comes back to get him. In fact it almost kills him. All of you who are fans of Shark know that the main character Sebastian Stark made his bones as one of the most vicious and under handed Criminal Defense attorneys in Los Angeles. Then he suddenly had an attack of conscience and decided his ‘skills’ would be of better use to the public at large instead of the scum bags who could afford his retainer so he went to work as a Deputy District Attorney for the City of Los Angeles in the High Profile Crimes Unit.
Sebastian Stark has always been known for testing the bounds of ethics, in fact one might say he enjoys dancing on that fine line between ethical right and wrong. When he was a high price defense attorney his skills allowed him to make some friends easily, but as a Deputy District Attorney now he makes enemies just as easily.
In the season premiere one of Starks close friends takes a bullet and is killed. This sends Sebastian deep into his own past where we (the viewers) got to see a glimpse of some of the despicable acts he was party to throughout his career as a Defense Attorney. Suddenly it becomes evident that the bullet wasn’t meant for his friend, it was meant for him. Now he is suddenly faced with a serious dilemma, maintain attorney client privilege and let a killer walk free or admit to being a party to a separate yet equally gruesome crime twelve years prior and face the potential of his career being brought to an abrupt end because of a disbarment and possible criminal charges to boot.
Stark and his team are back in full swing in this episode. The same internal rivalries are still there to provide an excellent continuing sub-plot, and the love hate relationship between Jessica Devlin (Jeri Ryan)and Sebastian Stark is just as tense as it was when we left them at the end of last season. Jessica still trying to keep her boss Sebastian in check and keep the High Profile Crimes unit out of the cross hairs of Los Angeles District Attorney. Danny Reyes(Kevin Alejandro) signed on last season and has become a regular character in the series. He is slowly working up to being the protege of Sebastian.
The ending of this episode was a little bit different. It left a whole bunch of question as to how long Sebastian is going to be working at the District Attorney’s office after the revelations that were brought forth by the case. Only time will tell. I for one can’t wait.
