Scientists Find a Natural Way to Reduce Blood Pressure. Drink beetroot juice!
New research, carried out at Barts and the London School of Medicine, found that drinking 500ml of beetroot juice everyday may reduce blood pressure. The study was led by Amrita Ahluwalia.
As many of you already know, high blood pressure (hypertension) is a health issue that could potentially lead to death. Heart and kidney diseases result from high blood pressure (hypertension).
The problem with high blood pressure (hypertension) has a big proportion within the US. In fact is a matter of National Public Health since more than 80 million people (American Heart Association) suffer from cardiovascular disease derived from high blood pressure (hypertension).
Many Americans die every year because of strokes derived from high blood pressure. More than 73 million people have or suffer (sometimes without knowing it) from high blood pressure according to the American Heart Association.
Hypertension can be treated initially with lifestyle changes. Alcohol and smoking have to be eliminated. Regular exercise should be incorporated in the patient’s life. If these lifestyle changes do not work some medications are available such as calcium beta blockers, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors, alpha-blockers and beta-blockers. All these medications are the last resort weapon to combat high blood pressure.
New natural and alternative methods of reducing hypertension are always popping out in research studies all over the world. With all the hype surrounding this area it is difficult to distinguish between those alternatives that really work and those that do not. In addition, the natural and alternative methods are usually cheaper than traditional pharmaceutical medicines so they are attractive for hypertension patients.
So what is it about this new study that showed that drinking 500 ml of Beetroot juice reduces the blood pressure? Beetroot juice has high concentrations of a chemical component named nitrate. Nitrate causes the blood pressure reduction.
According to the source, once you take the Beetroot juice, you can reduce your blood pressure within one hour and the maximum blood pressure reduction effect is seen after 3-4 hours of drinking the juice.
Drinking beetroot juice could be an efficient and cheaper alternative to antihypertensive medications. Nitrate rich beetroot can be taken daily so as to effectively reduce the high blood pressure of people affected by this disease. In addition, other foods that contain high concentrations of nitrates could be incorporated in the patient’s diet so as to have a stronger effect. In general, vegetables are rich in nitrates
