We went to Sal’s Italian Ristorante “Your Neighborhood Italian Restaurant” (trademarked and from the menu) for Mother’s Day. I had never been there but it was near Whitehall Rehab so it was easy to take my mom there. My husband and I went in earlier in the day to see if Sal’s takes reservations.
They were very nice; said they don’t especially for a party of 3. At 4:30 we took our chances and went over to the Garden Shops located at 7036-57/58 Palmetto Park Road in Boca Raton, Florida. You can find them at www.salsitalianristorante.com and call them at 561-417-4149.
I realized when we walked in that Sal’s was a very small restaurant. The open cooking area was right in front of us. The whole front of the restaurant was made up of windows. It was quite cute with a nice comfortable ambiance. We were asked if a booth was alright since there were no available tables. Within a ½ hour Sal’s began to fill up and by the time we left it was full.
There were two large tables that accommodated up to 12 people and the rest were booths along three walls. The booths were green and in excellent condition. The restaurant was spotless. I noted low hanging lamps; soft music; small wine racks on the walk at each booth; and what looked like Christmas lights to me (white) hanging from the wood over the booths. Although this was a very small restaurant, it didn’t feel crowded at all.
They offered us a special Mother’s Day menu in addition to the regular menu with a lot of offerings. We decided to take advantage of the early bird specials from 4:00 to 6:00p.m. We were asked by a super nice waiter what drinks we wanted and if we wanted regular rolls or garlic rolls. Of course we said garlic rolls. They we for sure among the best I’ve had. They were warm but a bit crunchy with a lot of garlic including whole garlic on the top. We quickly went through 6 and got more!
The early bird meals were $12.95 and came with soup or salad, an entrée, coffee or soda and a dessert. My husband got an Italian beer.
The meals were huge. My mom and I took home half of our meals. My eggplant Parmigianino was excellent. I had never had ricotta cheese added as a layer. This made it sweet and gave it substance. It was served with spaghetti which was just average. The salad had fancy lettuce and tomato in it. My mom got the veal which she said was excellent and my husband got mussels marinara which he thoroughly enjoyed.
The coffee was good which I don’t often say. I would have liked a full sized cannoli instead of a mini cannoli but it was very good and finished off the meal nicely.
Sal’s caters; has a lunch and dinner menu and on Mondays and Tuesdays you can get a large cheese pizza for $6.95 for take out only. There was plenty of free parking since Sal’s is in a very large strip type mall.
They also offer a whole host of salads, individual gourmet pizzas, appetizers and baked pasta.
I definitely recommend Sal’s. It was a great way to spend Mother’s Day.
