Preparation for the Easy Easter Bunny Craft for Toddlers
1. Cut the Hole
The most important part of the preparation for this Easter Bunny craft for toddlers is to make the hole in the bottom of the cup. The cup can be a paper cup or a Styrofoam cup if you have those on hand. Use scissors or a knife to cut a narrow slit in the bottom of the cup. The slit should be long enough for the craft stick to slide into, but not so big that the stick will fall out.
2. Cover the Cup
Next, decide to either make the cup represent spring with the green construction paper. Place the paper horizontally on the table. Measure the paper so it will cover the cup plus come up over the top by a quarter of an inch to half an inch.
Cut zig-zags in the top of the paper to represent the grass. Note: the paper may not sit right if you try to wrap one complete piece around the cup. It’s okay to leave the cup plain and uncovered in the back.
Note: for a standard cup this would be four inches.
Set the grass aside, do not attach to the cup yet.
3. Make the Easter Bunny
Cut out a little Easter Bunny shape from white. Make a body, a head and two ears. The bunny should be two to three inches long, including the ears. Draw on some eyes and a nose, mouth and ears. Toddlers can color this part too.
4. Toddlers: Decorate!
Toddlers can decorate the grass so the toddler can draw some spring items on the grass including flowers, or dots to represent flowers. The toddler could also draw bees, birds or butterflies. Another option is to make or buy springtime stickers for decorating the Easy pop-up Easter Bunny craft.
Toddlers can also decorate the bunny. Help them glue on some cotton balls for the ears. Note: for very young toddlers or toddlers who still like to mouth everything skip the cotton.
5. Parents Assemble
After the are done with the grass, glue the grass onto the outside of the cup.
Tape the bunny to the craft stick. Put tape on both sides of the rabbit to secure him. Stick the craft stick through the bottom hole from the inside of the cup.
Now the toddler can pop the bunny up and down out of the cup.
