When inviting your family to your home for brunch, send out an invitation with a photo of your beloved mother on the front of the invitation.
Make the invitation on your computer. If you are computer-savvy, you could make a collage of photos of your mother. On the inside of the invitation type:
Date: Mother’s Day ____________
Place: Your address
For: Mother’s Day Tribute Memorial Brunch
RSVP: Your phone number
*Please bring one of your favorite dishes to pass that mother used to make.
*Bring a photo of mother with you.
When people RSVP, ask them what dish they are bringing. This way, you will know if you have to prepare a dessert or if someone else is making one.
A few days before your Mother’s Day brunch, go to a floral shop or a discount store such as Wal-Mart and buy a few small plants that were your mother’s favorites. Buy enough small plants so that each person attending your brunch will have one.
Buy enough champagne and beverages of choice. Make sure you have enough ice. Make a shopping list for snacks and your favorite dish to pass.
On the day of the brunch, have a card table for snacks and beverages unless you have enough counter area to set all of the items.
Set table with a spring colored tablecloth. Or use a hand crotched table cloth. Something light and feminine. Decorate table with the small plants you purchased. You could set the plants on a large platter. Put a few taper candles in pretty candlestick holders in between that coordinate well with your mother’s favorite flowers.
Use cloth napkins or pretty spring napkins. If you have china, use that for this Mother’s Day Tribute Memorial Brunch. Use your good gold or silver utensils.
When guests arrive to your Mother’s Day brunch offer them a beverage and ask for their photo of mom. People can enjoy mingling and munching on snacks until all attending arrive.
Sit down to dinner. Have a glass of champagne at each adult’s place setting. Share a prayer before eating. Ask if anyone would like to do a toast in memory of mother. Toast and drink champagne. All will enjoy mom’s recipes that were their favorites. With all of mom’s food on the table it is bound to set a bonding topic of conversation about growing-up and about mother.
Serve dessert. Over dessert get each person’s photo. Let everyone talk about what was happening in their photo. Each person can also share a favorite memory of mother.
If mother is buried close by, all go to the cemetery together. Remember to bring all of the plants with you. When you arrive at the cemetery, give each person a plant to put on mother’s gravesite. Each person can say a small prayer out loud or quietly to themselves as they put their beautiful flowers on the grave.
If mother is buried too far away, let each person take the flower home as a special memento.
This will be a beautiful, loving, and memory-making Mother’s Day Brunch Memorial for you and all of your family members.
