OK, so maybe it is a little early to talk about pumpkin picking and Halloween, but in this day and age if things are not planned far in advance, we seem to run out of time. That said, I want to share a wonderful place in upstate New York to go for pumpkin picking, hay rides, and a great midway. Maples Farm is located at 749 Route 17M in Middletown NY. They are a family farm and are open year round. My favorite time to go is in the fall.
For under $10.00 each, you can get in the midway for games and fun, go on a hayride to the pumpkin patch, stopping to feed Scottish Highlander cows, and go through the Petting Zoo, Haunted House and Hay Maze. It is very family oriented and safe. You can spend the entire day there, eating candy apples and popcorn, pretzels or even hot dogs. You can eat right in the midway or sit at one of their picnic tables overlooking the beautiful pond. We love to eat and watch the ducks play. We feed them little pieces of bread and our 2 year old daughter really gets a kick out of watching them run for the food!
I love their home made fudge, which also comes in sugar free varieties. The bakery seems to be the best one around. People come from all over to get their home made pies, ranging from rhubarb to pecan, strawberry to pumpkin. You can also purchase their home made breads at a great price.
What I love the most is the family atmosphere. You can walk through the farm and feel safe with your children. They go through the haunted house, which is not really scary, and they get a lollipop from a friendly witch when they are through. They marvel at the petting zoo, where you can see pigs, rabbits, cows, sheep, goats, turkeys, and a rooster.
If you are looking for a picture perfect day in the fall, you MUST visit Maples Farm in Middletown NY. The views of the mountains in the fall are breathtaking, especially in the autumn when the leaves are orange, green, red, and yellow.
There is also a gift shop where you can purchase Halloween items as well as items for your home landscaping. These items vary from seeds to benches. They also have a small variety of sheds and small outdoor storage units available for purchase.
Maples Farm in Middletown New York has it all for you! From baked goods to family fun, sheds and benches to fudge, hay rides to haunted houses, everyone is guaranteed a splendid and happy day!
