Tried and true are the red, white and blue,
With dedicated fighters who are true.
Our nation repeatedly is put to the test,
To see which of us march on to the crest.
A memory comes out of the ashes anew.
Our colors are shown brilliantly each day,
As we fight for our freedoms in every way.
Great leaders may come and go,
But our hearts remember their great show.
Written down are these memoirs they paid.
Though our country may be young,
The world will remember our great songs.
Our gestures of friendship will be remembered on.
Many have died for your benefit.
So what do you do to remember it?
Are there flowers on their graves,
Or US Flags on their stones?
Is there a US Flag on your home?
Do you travel far and wide
To see others through the countryside?
You actions do speak louder than words.
Nothing done this day is for the birds.
Memorial Day should be one of respect.
Our lives should have more meaning than…
Expensive or large houses
That purposeful career
A fancy or new vehicle
…and I could go on.
The armed forces have done so much for this country since George Washington and the others have fought for us from the early days. What do we do? We complain that our internet isn’t fast enough, or we don’t have enough bling. Our spending is such that we are out of hand.
If we really did something this country would not be in debt. Companies would be embarrassed of outsourcing, and keep their business here. Our dependency on credit is out of hand, too. We cannot seem to live among our own income bracket. It is always more, more, more. How can we focus on our country when we have become so selfish?
When was the last time you truly remembered what we are fighting for? Freedom doesn’t come by choice. It comes by getting out of your comfort zone and putting your self at risk. Memorial Day is a day of honor for those who risked everything for us to keep this country free from tyranny. Pay your respects by hanging out a flag.
We have so much to be thankful here in the United States of America. Let’s show it! Visit a local cemetery and honor the veterans there with a flag or flower on their tombstone. Memorial Day is a United States holiday, which many of us take for granted.
Write a poem for someone you know who serves in our military. There are several books out there on how to write poetry.
