If your mom likes photographs, why not make her a mother’s day gift out of them. There are so many great ideas to be able to create a keepsake for her that she will treasure now and always. The following ten ideas will help you choose one or help you to think of one of your own. Remember, the gift is for mom, so think of things mom would like and go from there.
One: Is mom a pet lover? If so, why not have a photograph put onto a t-shirt, blanket, or plush toy for her pet. For example, if she has a dog, you can have a doggie sweater or t-shirt made with a picture of her and the pet together put onto it. This is a gift that will probably make her laugh and delight her at the same time because it will be so unexpected and original.
Two: Create a scrapbook, photo album or homemade story book from pictures. You can make it a Mother’s Day theme if you like. Make sure the photographs are duplicates or ones that you have taken yourself and printed from a digital camera. You can include pictures of everyone in the family, including Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts, Uncles, pets, etc. and you can even have everyone doing something silly, like wearing Groucho Marx glasses (yep, Fido too). Or consider creating a little scrapbook for mom out of pictures you got from grandma and grandpa or her brother’s and sisters or maybe even from dad. You can put pictures of her as a child or pictures of her with her mom on Mother’s Day from years past as well as pictures of her and her children from previous Mother’s Days. Or you can have a scrapbook made for her that has all of her favorite childhood pictures in it. This is a great project for enlisting the help of others in the family and makes a great joint effort gift.
Three: Have a t-shirt made for mom that has a picture on it of the family. You can add a slogan if you like or have “Happy Mother’s Day” written on it under the picture. These can be specially ordered from many online companies, or from local stores. Make sure to note how long it takes to get the items back to ensure Mom will get it on time for her special day. Another idea would be to have t-shirts made up for everyone in the house that say “I love Mom” or something like that on them. You can even have a t-shirt, onesie or bib made up for baby. Everyone’s can have the same picture and slogan on it and of course, one would be made for mom too. If dad wants to be funny he can even have boxers made up for him with the picture and photo on it.
Four: If mom likes puzzles, have a jigsaw created for mom that has a picture of family on it. Or take a picture of the family holding up a big sign that says “I love mom” or “Happy Mother’s Day” and have it created into a jigsaw. The ideas for this are endless as well and sure to be a joy for mom as she realizes the thoughtfulness put into her gift.
Five: If mom likes to cook, have an apron made with pictures of the kids or the entire family put on it. Or you can have a collage of pictures put onto one that is sure to make her smile. Maybe you could have a photograph taken of everyone in the family wearing a chef’s hat and surprise her by having the apron made from that picture, or you can take a picture of mom wearing a chef’s hat and then surprise her by having that made into an apron.
Six: Dad can round the kids up, dressed in their best attire, and take them to the local photo studio. Picture packages can be created for $20 and under and will surely be a great surprise for mom. You can all hold up a handmade sign in the photograph for mom or have a professional backdrop up that depicts Mother’s Day somehow. You can even have the pet put into the picture in some studios. Again, make sure to allow time for the photos to be returned in a timely manner. It usually takes 7-14 days for them to be returned.
Seven: Dad can take everyone to the Dollar Store to choose a gift for mom and he can take a picture of them in the store selecting or holding up their item of choice. He can then enlarge these pictures on the computer, order enlargements, or print them in a traditional size and create a little brag book, or photo album for mom. Other photos can be added to fill the book that are relevant, such as the children wrapping the presents or hiding them (perhaps holding a finger up to say ‘shhh’ while they are hiding them. You could bake a cake for the day as well and have the pictures put in the book of that process, including the decorating and the final product.
Eight: If mom is environmentally friendly consider having a canvas tote bag for shopping made up with a photograph you know she will like on it. Canvas shopping bags are all the rage today as they eliminate the need for ‘paper or plastic’ and this will be a gift item that is practical, environmentally aware and one that she will be able to use many times, not to mention it shows that you appreciate her efforts to help make the world a better place.
Nine: Some magazine companies have templates that allow personal pictures to be created into a faux magazine cover for their company. You can check with mom’s favorite magazine or a famous magazine she likes and see if this is a possibility. The cover it will have your picture of choice and some really great headlines as well. It is a nifty gift idea that will surely make her laugh. You can be as silly or traditional as you would like with this idea.
Ten: Create a cookbook for mom of her favorite recipes or even new ones you think she might like. Take pictures of family members cooking to add to the book or of the dishes themselves. You could also take pictures of mom cooking anything and organize them into the book as a surprise. You can write the recipes on index cards and glue or tape them on pages with the pictures. The help of family friends and members can be enlisted for this as well or you can choose recipes from a library book that you’ve checked out or from mom’s recipe collection at home.
Pictures are a great way to preserve memories and create gifts. This Mother’s Day finding a photo idea for mom that is sure to please and surprise her is only as limited as your imagination.
