Go ahead and face the iPod music – POD people are everywhere! POD people have invaded the Internet, and there’s going to be no way to escape in 2009.
People and the Internet are like two peas in a pod. The Internet is an enormous vessel that’s quickly encompassing the seeds of any idea that a person can remotely think of to sow. The Internet allows people to boldly come out of their shells and bravely seek out new adventures, friends, and cultures which extend across state lines, span across continents, travel from coast to coast, and dive into the deep blue sea to shining sea.
Citizen journalists, online communities, chat groups and forums continue to sprout up faster than this Miracle-Gro monstrosity ever could have imagined! Wherever there is an available IP address, there seems to be a POD race to register a domain, find hosting, or create a website that simultaneously manages to tap into SEO and keyword optimization.
ET is no longer phoning home but sending e-mails, texting messages, visiting Wi-Fi cafés, plugging in MP3 players, watching videos on YouTube, beaming up digital jpegs and downloading instructions via a DSL or broadband connection. All the while, ET is happily RSS feeding himself despite feeling a bit torn between Reese’s pieces with nuts or custom printed M&Ms. (Ouch!)
The Internet truly does seem to be the mother of all mother ships. One thing is certain. Whether it’s podcast, podiobook, print on demand, publish on demand, P.O.D., portable on demand storage, personal open directory, photo of the day, pull out drawers, payable on death, or people on drugs puking content on demand, the Internet is podding along as fast as its many POD people can carry it!
In a society where technology is constantly advancing, the fear of obsolescence can only attempt to pinpoint “What’s Next?”
The Internet and its self-actualizing nature allow us to more completely define who we are as a people or as an alien nation. The Internet’s role as the mother ship is solely to provide the environment for discovery. As we Mahalo, Google, or Yahoo search for that one rare needle in a haystack, the test of endurance is in the freedom of choice – to discover our own answers and leveling truths. The Internet is only one, innately human tool, with the potential to yield something wonderful and unexpected.
It is unrealistic to expect the Internet to please all its users at all times. Parental controls exist for a reason. However, as more and more POD people flock to this alien nation, the “What’s Next” is found more in the challenge to strive for excellence and seek out the divine.
Tapping into the experiences and the knowledge bases of millions of people is an infinite galaxy that could take lifetimes to explore.
If you aren’t on board, what are you waiting for? Show what you know in 2009! It’s gonna be the biggest Poddy Time yet, so bring your Poddy Mouth to AC!
