There’s nothing like a soothing bath to relax your body when you have the time to sit back and enjoy it. Quite often, we find ourselves in the position of having to make time to pamper ourselves when we need it.
It’s no secret that herbs are an intricate part of alternative and holistic healing. The healing properties of herbs are limitless and it is to our advantage to learn as much about them as we can. Over the last few years, I’ve learned that making herbal fusions to add to my baths creates a perfect and different healing method that not only relaxes me but exposes me to the other healing properties of the herbs used in the fusion.
A fusion is combining two or more elements to create a new one. For instance, there’s musical fusions (such as mixing jazz and hip hop) and color fusions (such as mixing red and blue to make purple); this is the same formula for combining herbs. One of my favorite fusions, which I share here in this article are chamomile and lavender. Both herbs are known for their overall healing property of relaxation of the physical and mental aspects of the self. Both of them are flowers as well. And both of them can be used as drinking tea as well.
Adding an herbal fusion to your bath water creates a very healing environment for your body and your mind. However, I do not use herbal healing baths the same as a regular bath. When I’m in need of a healing bath, I take the regular bath first to cleanse my body and then after cleaning my tub and running more water, I take the healing bath.
Chamomile & Lavender Herbal Fusion for Healing Baths
1 handful of dried chamomile flowers
1 handful of dried lavender flowers
Fill the small saucepan three-fourths full. Throw in chamomile and lavender flowers. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat down to medium or medium-low depending upon your stove and let simmer for 15-20 minutes. The liquid should have a dark hue to it. Strain liquid into a cup or bowl. Run your bath. Add liquid to your bath water. Step into the bath water and get comfortable. The water should be nice and warm, not hot. The point is to be comfortable. Set your intention for the bath through prayer or meditation. Visualize your bath water completely infused with healing energy, not only from the herbal fusion but also from within you. Relax in the bath for 15-20 minutes. Please be sure to put your entire body into the water at different points in the healing bath. Your tub may not be big enough to immerse yourself entirely into the water at one time, but you should get the healing water on you from head to toe. So, please understand that your hair will need to get wet. This is a ritual type of bath. Therefore, immersing yourself into the bath water is extremely important. After you’re done with the healing bath, step out of the bath, and allow yourself to air dry.
