Bill Richardson, the governor of New Mexico, endorsed Barack Obama for the Democratic nomination on March 20, 2008, instead of Hillary Clinton. Obama and Hillary were both hoping for Richardson’s nomination since he is a super delegate who will be casting a vote in August, as well as the only Hispanic governor. Both presidential candidates know that Richardson’s endorsement may directly influence a large amount of Hispanic votes to the candidate he chooses, as well as the other super delegates.
Not only did Richardson publicly endorse Obama, he complimented the candidate candidly. He expressed faith in Obama’s ability to lead America and unite the nation. “You are a once-in-a-lifetime leader…above all, you will be a president who brings this nation together. [Obama] will be a historic and great president, who can bring us the change we so desperately need by bringing us together as a nation here at home and with our allies abroad.” He continued on to say, “There is no doubt in my mind that Barack Obama has the judgment and courage we need in a commander in chief when our nation’s security is on the line. He showed this judgment by opposing the Iraq war from the start, and he has shown it during this campaign by standing up for a new era in American leadership internationally.”
Richardson also stated that he was unhappy the spirit of the campaign. He has pointed the finger of blame for the recent negative undertone of the campaign at the Clintons.
This should be a red flag for every American watching the campaign process! Richardson has known Hillary Clinton for many years, they have worked together in the past, and Hillary even watched the Superbowl with the governor of New Mexico at his house in Sante Fe in January 2008. Richardson was close friends with Bill Clinton during his presidency. While Bill Clinton was president, Richardson served as ambassador to the U.N. and as secretary of the Energy Department.
Personally, Richardson said that his decision was made about a week ago. However, after seeing Obama’s speech on racism in America, he was so impressed that he decided he was ready to go public with his decision.
Richardson made his decision official Thursday night and called Hillary to let her know. He admits that it was an uncomfortable and difficult conversation, due to their close friendship. Someone who knows Hillary very well, both in and out of work, for many years, has decided against her. He believes she is not the best suited leader for our country, and since he is close with her, his decision is notable, because he would know best!
Obama was very happy and welcomed Richardson’s endorsement. Obama and Richardson have at least one important thing in common that Hillary Clinton disagrees with. Obama and Richardson believe that it is in the best interest of America to communicate and negotiate with countries that we consider friends, as well as countries that we consider enemies. Anyone who studies relationships, both personal and foreign, would agree that communication is beneficial to the development and strength of any relationship. Hillary Clinton has her own opinions about communicating with foreign countries. She believes that hostile or repressive countries need to change to meet her standards before she will interact with them. Hillary is asking other people to change their ways for her before she will even talk with them! Obama wants to accept other countries’ differences, try to effectively communicate with them, build friendly relations, guide them in their development, and help them find solutions to whatever problems they have. I don’t think it is a good idea to put America on a pedestal, like Hillary intends to do, because we are all one earth and one people. She should be encouraging us to work together, like Obama is, instead of separating us further from one another.
During one of the earlier democratic debates, Richardson and Obama were rivals. Richardson’s attention wandered for a brief moment and he missed the question he was asked. For a moment, Richardson was clueless about what to do or say. Barack Obama, sitting next to him, could have let Richardson bail himself out of this problem on his own, but instead Obama leaned over and whispered to him that question was about Hurricane Katrina. Richardson was impressed by this move of genuine sincerity and respect. “[Obama] could have thrown me under the bus, but he stood behind me.”
Obama now has an overall lead of 148.5 delegates, according to The New York Times. However, he has a long way to go since a candidate needs 2,024 to win the Democratic nomination.
Now, you may be thinking that Richardson is uniting with Barack Obama instead of Hillary Clinton because Obama is a minority, just like Richardson is, or because they both are children of one foreign born parent. That is far from the case. He looked at both candidates, their experiences, their strengths and weaknesses, and he deliberated. He looked at the character of both candidates and his final choice for endorsement for the democratic nomination was Obama. There were once many democratic presidential hopefuls, like Richardson. Only one other past candidate has taken a side, and his name is Chris Dodd, who is a senator of Conneticut He made the decision to endorse Obama, and so should you!
Why else should you support Obama? …To avoid scandal and corruption.
Don’t just take it from me, I encourage you to look up:
Mary C. Mahoney
Kevin Ives/Don Henry/Keith Coney
Victor Raiser/R. Montgomery Raiser.
…just to name a few. (Remember folks, Hillary Clinton is married to Bill Clinton. He will be joining her in the white house. He will greatly influence her decisions and encourage her to be president in a way that is similar to the way he was president. Hillary is already showing signs of her mastery of deception that she has learned from her husband (she won’t show her Tax Returns to anyone). Legitimately, why hide something controversial and perhaps damaging if you haven’t done anything wrong? Hiding it tarnishes her reputation and raises eyebrows. Bill Clinton received the majority of the money for his presidential election from China. Makes me wonder where all her money is coming from, don’t you?)
Remember 14,000 soldiers died under Bill Clinton’s administration and he pardoned 140 criminals from their crimes. He pardoned sex crimes against adults and children, cocaine charges, drunk driving, disordely conduct, etc. Hillary Clinton’s brother received $107,000 dollars from one of the pardons, and the Clinton family benefited financially. I guess the saying “Crime doesn’t pay” doesn’t apply here!
You disapprove of Bush? Well, remember he has only lost 3-4,00 soldiers (10,000 less than Clinton) and he has pardoned 113 people. George W. Bush knows how it feels to be in trouble with the law and he can relate to criminals. On September 4, 1976, Bush himself was arrested for driving under the influence. Dick Cheney, his close friend and our vice president has been arrested for the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol twice ( at least he beat George W. Bush at something!). And, should we assume that Dick Cheney was completely sober when he shot a 78 year old attorney and friend of his named Harry Whittington? The SEVENTY EIGHT YEAR OLD was shot in the face, neck, and upper torso with birdshot pellets from a 28-gauge Perazzi shotgun. Three days after he was shot, Whittington suffered a non-fatal silent heart attack and atrial fibrillatio due to at least one of the lead-shot pellets that had hit him in the chest. Remember folks, if something happened to George W. Bush, this man would be the President of the United States of America!
We have had 16 years of the Bush Family as president and 8 of the Clinton family. Look at the shape of our country! Are you stressed because of gas prices, do you worry about the war, did you know the price of food has gone up 10% in just one year? Where will we be in 5 years? 10 years? At this rate, few of use will be able to afford to drive cars! We need change! We need vice presidents that don’t shoot senior citizens, presidents that won’t drive drunk, get involved in drug deals, or cheat on their wives (and then have the mistress mysteriously killed). We need to keep our amazing weapon technology to ourselves and not freely share it with potential enemies in combat, we should not sell blood, especially when it is contaminated with a fatal disease just for the money, and the president of the US should not pardon criminals or commit treason because he will benefit financially or personally. These things are wrong, and if our own president, our chosen leader, is doing it, then seriously, what can you expect of the American citizens and our future?
I put hope and faith in Obama. I don’t care what color his skin, it’s not a modeling contest or something. He has two years in the US senate and 7 years in the Illinois senate. (Who has the right to determine how much experience is enough to be president?) Also, and undeniably important, I get a good feeling when I listen to him. For controversy sake, he does say the Pledge of Allegiance and is not a muslim. His minister has the right to his own opinions, as we all have the right to ours. Research everything and anything before you believe it and take it as truth. I strongly encourage you to support Barack Obama and not stand for anything less than what America deserves.
