Are you looking for a social networking site where people will not be able to identify yourself? Well then Habbo Hotel might be the social networking website for you. With Habbo Hotel you don’t have to worry about people coming up to you on the street and recognizing you like they can with other popular social networking websites such as Facebook and Myspace. The key here is that Habbo Hotel is more geared towards the younger generation. This social networking website appears to be more geared towards young teens and possibly younger children. For that age group, Habbo Hotel is probably a great choice as it does reduce the risk of running into unsavory characters in the program.
Using Habbo Hotel, you basically create your own hotel room and decorate it. You then have other friends “visit” you in the game/website by coming into your room. There they will see how you decorated your area of the game. Of course this is not the only way to socialize with others on Habbo Hotel. You can go into common areas of the game, and into other players rooms at Habbo Hotel. There are also some games that you can play when using the social networking website Habbo Hotel, but in reality these games do not appear to be the type of games that will hold the interest of the members of the website very long. The most appealing part of Habbo Hotel is probably your ability to socialize without posting photos of yourself. In the game you are an animated character that you decide.
The one issue with Habbo Hotel which might take away from it’s appeal to the teen crowd and younger that it appears designed for is the fact that you must pay cash for accessories and decorations for your hotel room. Therefore you must get your parents to allow you to use their credit card. I think this is a major issue, as it encourages kids to get their parents to let them use credit cards online which is not a good thing. The biggest issue being the users of the website are not old enough to have credit cards, and the other being they may not understand the risks of identity theft when using one online.
There are other ways to get some of these decorations, but keep in mind that the website is not supportive of you using these methods and your account could be deleted. In general “cheat codes” are found online to be codes you enter using the alt button and a specific numeric code while playing the game.
Overall, I just really can’t see the overall appeal of Habbo Hotel. Other games such as Virtual Magic Kingdom made for the same age group as Habbo Hotel are more entertaining and allow you to get your special features of the game without paying real money. Stick with the free games, Habbo Hotel appears to be just a waste of money for kids who have limited funds to begin with. The only way I can see for this social networking website to be valuable would be to use it as a free website without purchasing the additions to put into your own hotel room at Habbo Hotel. Unfortunately, this really reduces any level of entertainment the networking website might have and results in it falling below the competition.
