Remember back when you were a kid, you know, when the west was young and you could find people to play with wherever you went? You probably think that time is over, as you are now an adult with responsibilities and obligations. That is not necessarily the case, especially not in the Boston area. Well many people no longer have the time to align themselves with a sports league pick-up games are a great option to get out there and play a game you love without feeling obligated to show up every time. The hardest part is usually finding a place to play.
If basketball is your game you can pick-up a good game at The Cambridge Athletic Club. The club offers pick up games for players of all skill levels Wednesday through Sunday. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday offer up a noon game, a perfect lunchtime work out. Additionally players can join a pick-up game at 6:30am on Thursday and 5:30pm on Friday at the location. Saturday and Sunday games tip off at 11:00am. CAC members can play for free but non-members have to pay $10.00, which isn’t a bad deal at all.
Basketball pick-up games are not the only ones available in the Boston area. The soccer season is back in full-swing in the area and pick-up games can be found most weekends. Spoccer, a website dedicated to finding users a great pick-up game, suggests that weekends are the best time to find a soccer game in the area. Heritage Park East Longmeadow offers up a Saturday game that starts at 1pm. The game is free and all skill levels are welcomed. For a Sunday game Cambridge Commons, right by Harvard University, is the best bet. The game is free for all once again and all levels are welcome. The game starts around 2pm.
Pick-up volleyball can be found at the Boston Ski & Sports Club. Pick-up play is offered Tuesday nights in Newton. The games start at 6pm and run till about 8pm. No reservations are required, just show up and play. There are no changing rooms so arrive ready to play with whatever you think you might need. If you are into ultimate Frisbee a commitment maybe required. The BSSC also offers a 10 week league. Different teams are made up each week and the league costs $80 for ten weeks of play. It is co-ed and all levels are welcomed. Check with the BSSC for further details.
