It was almost noon when we turned onto the strip in Vegas and headed for the Excalibur. I could see the hotel with its colorful castle peeks and couldn’t wait to get checked in. I have stayed at the Excalibur a number of times and it’s relatively cheap compared to some of the other hotels on the strip.
Getting checked into the room went quite well. I always make my reservations two to three weeks in advance and I got exactly what I asked for.
The Excalibur had remodeled since my last visit and I can say with all honesty that it was really nice. There were good sized beds, a small table beneath a hanging mirror and a lounge chair complete with matching ottoman; and in front of the bed above the large chest of drawers was a plasma television. That was very impressive.
Those in my vacation party got the room adjoining mine, but it was furnished differently with a love seat, coffee table and a table with chairs. Both rooms were much nicer than the old rooms and the bathrooms had shelves beneath the sink, which was also something new.
One of the downsides about Excalibur is that it doesn’t offer free internet access, but by now they may have added it.
We had stayed at the Excalibur so many times that we’d already seen all of their entertainment like the jousting show, the comedian, Carrot top, and the male dancers (stud muffins). They used to have a guy walking around in a wizard costume, which was nice for the kids, but he wasn’t there on our last trip.
The Excalibur is very kid-friendly. Of course the kids aren’t allowed in the casino area except to pass through. Not even babies in strollers. I’ve seen them enforce this rule too, a number of times. There’s a whole floor dedicated to the kids with all kinds of games and fun things.
About an hour of checking in, we finally got down to the casino where I noticed that most of the regular slots had been replaced with videos. We had visited most every casino on the strip and Excalibur is the only one that has mostly video slots. Therefore, if you like traditional slots, you don’t want to stay at the Excalibur.
Be that as it may, Excalibur has the only casino on the strip that still has Keno which is now located in the sports bar.
The service is really very good in the sports bar. The waitress comes around every ten to fifteen minutes. But don’t expect to see a waitress any time soon if you’re playing the slots. And once you do finally get a waitress, don’t hold your breath until she gets back, if she even gets back at all. The service is so lousy that we had to go sit in the sports bar to get a drink.
Excalibur usually comps us well but on our last visit, we were told that our comps now go towards our next visit so we decided to check around at the other hotels and see what kind of deals we could get. We learned that there are other hotels with walkways that connect to Excalibur.
Therefore, since we like keno and enjoy Excalibur’s sports bar, but enjoy traditional slots and like to drink while we’re playing; we can rent a room in one of the hotels next to the Excalibur and simply walk back and forth.
