A few weeks ago a new store opened up in the center of Blakeslee, Pa. Dunkin Donuts is a familiar name to most people. Located in the heart of the Poconos and a hop, skip and a jump to the interstate the new establishment is perfectly placed. It does have competition since there is a WaWa chain literally right next door. As a consumer you would hope that with its competitor so close the service, attitude and wait time at Dunkin Donuts would be impeccable. You would be terribly disappointed by this thought.
Dunkin Donuts has always made a name for itself. Fresh coffee, fresh donuts and sandwiches on the go are on the menu. Tourists and natives alike were anxious for the opening of this favored store in the small town. This review is based on my 2 experiences through the drive thru of Dunkin Donuts.
The first week Dunkin Donuts opened I really wanted to go get a coffee. I decided to hold off at least a week so that the new employees would have a warm up period. I thought they could get their feet wet, make some mistakes yet get the general idea of how things should run in this type of business.
After the first week and when things settled down I went. I decided to try out the drive-thru window as this is a rather new experience for me with a Dunkin Donuts. I ordered a half dozen mixed donuts, one medium coffee black, one 20 oz. Pepsi and one medium chocolate milk. I did not think my order was terribly hard. The total came to less than $10 which was okay by me even though Donut prices have gone up slightly. I drove through and waited. I waited for about 5 minutes for them to open the window. I can be a very patient person so I took a deep breath and handed over the money with a smile of understanding. The window closed again.
I waited for my order for another 3 minutes. Now I have been in a drive-thru before so I can understand that sometimes you get behind. I watched as the window opened again. My donuts were handed to me by the employee then my coffee. So far, so good. The employee then turned from the window and left. No thank you for your business, nothing to state the transaction was over. I had assumed she was getting the other drinks until I popped my head up to look in the facility! There she was waiting on another customer.
Now I have a bunch of cars behind me while I wait. I was very aggravated at this point and when the manager opened the window again I asked politely for the rest of my order. Showing her on the front seat what I had received. She looked at the receipt left on her cash machine and proceeded to tell me that I had only ordered a half dozen donuts and coffee. My kids in the back of the car were getting upset now. Chocolate Milk and Soda are a very important treat in the lives of children. I smiled at the lady then looked at my kids and said that I would get them something from Wawa. I drove away a very unhappy customer. Yet I decided to try again.
I went about 2 weeks after the first trip. This was because I needed to settle down and let them weed out the employee’s that were too new to the task. I had faith that Dunkin Donuts could redeem themselves.
My second order was for a #5 which was a bacon egg and cheese bagel sandwich with a medium coffee. The price was $4.95 for this deal. I thought it was pretty good. Less than $5 bucks and I could eat lunch on the run. Then I got to the window. I was given my sandwich. It did smell good. Again the employee of Dunkin Donut’s left the window and someone else took her place. The other lady noticed my look of confusion and opened the window. She asked if everything was alright and I said “Doesn’t my meal come with a coffee?” She smiled politely and said “You didn’t order the sandwich with a coffee. That costs an extra $1.95.” I smiled as nicely as I could and said “But I ordered the #5 off the sign.” “It doesn’t say that here” Said the girl as she held up part of her receipt. I just shook my head and told her to have a nice day as I drove away.
Dunkin Donuts has failed itself by either hiring dumb employees or obtaining the new motto that the customer is always wrong. It is very disturbing to get the same bad service each time you go to the place. I will not be bringing my business back to Dunkin Donuts at the Blakeslee area. If others have gotten the same treatment I highly doubt the business will stay very long. Dunkin Donuts gets a 1 out of 5 stars. I will just go to WaWa from now on.
