It’s only been a little over 50 years since the natural substance present in our body’s cells called Coenzyme Q10 (sometimes just called Co Q10) was identified and studied. Most people, however, probably still aren’t aware of what it is and why it’s important to stave off illness in our bodies. Basically, the purpose of it as it resides in most of the cells in our body’s internal organs is to convert the food we eat into energy–or, in simpler terms, getting the nutrients we need from food into our bodies to help sustain our health. Call this a natural antioxidant, even though you can buy it as an antioxidant supplement in health food stores. When Co Q10 disappears from your body, your health is at major risk, and it’s imperative to get it back into your body in any way possible.
In case you wonder what the “Q” stands for, it has nothing to do with James Bond’s famous gadget demonstrator, even though having some Co Q10 along in Bond’s pocket probably wouldn’t have hurt to keep his health up while under duress or held hostage for an interminably long time. Q is for Quinone…and, yep, it’s good enough for you. In biochemistry, Quinone is part of the compounds in the body that oxidizes oxygen atoms to produce energy. The “10” merely refers to the amount of isoprene (a common hydrocarbon found in our bodies) is in the compound rather than microscopic equivalent of judges holding up scoring cards.
If you’re a young person (and I’m talking up to your 60’s here rather than the Hollywood aging vision of 35), you’re already getting plenty of Co Q10 in your body. When you get older, though, the production of it starts to slow down in the body–hence why supplementation is usually necessary. And it’s unfortunate that many older people have no understanding at all what Co Q10 is or that it’s mandatory to keep their health in better shape as you age. I have no doubt in my mind that because many don’t take it, it instigates older people dying from cancer, heart attacks and just about every major illness you can name.
Sure, that makes Co Q10 sound like a wonder supplement, doesn’t it? Well, it may be tied now with olive oil as the healthiest thing you can consume on planet earth and to keep all of the prominent fatal diseases from happening to an individual as they age. Just take a look at what Coenzyme Q10 can possibly do once you get up to those more vulnerable years when cancer and heart attacks are more common…
Co Q10 as a major treatment for cancer, as well as keeping your blood pressure down…
This may end up being one of the sure-bet preventatives for cancer as well as a treatment for it. Studies are still ongoing, but it was in the early 1960’s when scientists discovered that when people have cancer, Co Q10 was absent in the body. When given as a supplement during cancer treatments, it helped people regain their immune systems when cancer treatment was bogging them down. Today, this procedure is still used from time to time for many as well as research into Co Q10 being a strong candidate for preventing new cancer cells from developing.
Yes, this is incredible when you hear about it, even though the FDA still doesn’t approve Co Q10 as an official treatment for anything, let alone cancer. Plenty of proof exists that people have been helped considerably by taking Co Q10 as a supplement, yet you’ll only find it in health food stores as one of those alternatives to your health that’s said to either work or not. It shouldn’t surprise us, really, why Co Q10 is put on the backburner by the FDA, because it could help prevent every major illness that kills off millions of people per year. It’s the paradox of the medical world wanting a cure or preventative for cancer or cardiac problems, but at the same time slowing it down so they don’t lose patients they depend on to keep their industries thriving.
As I insinuated, Co Q10 helps just about everything else to prevent illness–from headaches to lowering your blood pressure as the obvious deterrent to heart attacks. Studies (see source link below) have also proven Co Q10 to help cognitive problems in people as well as treating Parkinson’s disease. My earlier-mentioned olive oil (as well as lecithin) does that, too, despite Co Q10 being more convenient in its all-encompassing ability to help everything, particularly when you can buy the supplement in easy to swallow tablets.
You should know it isn’t always cheap. Expect to buy one container sometimes going up to $40. Before you blow a gasket with that, know that you can sometimes find cheaper deals on it at places like Walgreen’s or other discount stores that sell supplements.
And as the subtitle of this article suggested, the strong majority of people in the world who are taking statins should most definitely look into taking Co Q10. The reason is the most typical one of many pharmaceutical drugs: They cause other health problems while helping others…
Co Q10 depletion by cholesterol-lowering drugs…
I’d hate to think how many people around the world are on statins now, but it must be growing exponentially. In America, where many are eating themselves to death, statin use is probably at an all-time high. While they do a fantastic job of lowering bad cholesterol to help prevent cardiac problems, they’re well-known in flushing Co Q10 out of the body. Many elderly people (and young people already on statins) in this country are probably unknowingly going through life with no Co Q10 in their bodies due to statins obliterating it up to almost half.
This may be a more astute determinacy in why cancer incidents continue to climb and degenerative conditions of the brain and the heart become common in the elderly.
If you’re an adherent to the FDA and don’t buy anything they don’t approve, then I leave this up to your judgment. Based on personal experience in my own family, however, Co Q10 has already done a lot of seeming good in preventing major illness. Of course, you can’t tell if it’s working just because a person doesn’t get cancer or have a heart attack. When so many other people do have those health issues at the same age, though, spending the extra money to buy Co Q10 as part of your supplements should be a part of your monthly food bill.
