The Chicagoland Flower & Garden Show will be held March 8-16, 2008, at Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont., Illinois. March is the perfect time to get landscaping and gardening plans together for the upcoming colorful spring and summer season. The garden show highlights the latest in garden design tips and informations seminars to educate garden enthusiasts.
The Convention Center will be filled with colorful blooms and leafy foliage, to inspire gardeners and landscapers to greater creativity. The 14th Anniversary show will feature: Theme Gardens, Garden Marketplace, Gardening Seminars, Garden Gourmet, The “Teaching Garden,” Floral Tablescapes and a Photography Garden. The new Home Lifestyle Expo will run all nine days of the show.
On the opening weekend of the show a two day art show will feature more than 70 artists. The art show is a new event and the garden exposition.
Following is a brief description of the exhibits and seminars at the Chicagoland Flower and Garden Show this year.
Home Lifestyle Expo. This new show will be held in the adjacent hall. The expo features furniture, windows, doors, lighting, DIY (do-0it-yourself) and home improvement vendors.
Garden Marketplace features over 200 garden related exhibitors displaying products and services.
Garden Seminars: Professionals will offer insights on landscaping and growing techniques at Garden Seminars. Several seminars will be held daily. The topics are different each day. Seminars will instruct about a variety of subjects, including: pruning, annuals, perennials, shrubs, shade gardens, Witch Hazels, Cooking with Herbs, lawn care, wildflower gardens, container gardens, lillies, plant selection, sustainable gardening, environmentally friendly landscapes, dwarf fruits, ornamental trees and carnivorous plants. Garden Gourmet: Culinary demonstrations by top chefs from Chicagoland will feature natural ingredients in cooking. Three Garden Gourmet demonstrations will be held daily, at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. One dish will be featured at each demonstration. Each chef’s recipes will include herbs and natural edible ingredients that can be grown around the house by people in the Chicago area. At the end of each 45 minute demonstration samples will be given to the first 100 people in attendance. The Garden Gourmet Stage is presented by Royal Prestige.
Teaching Garden is an educational area designed for the beginning and novice gardener. The area features beginner gardens. Experts are available to offer advice for budding Green Thumbs.
Floral Tablescapes. Exhibit features innovative floral creations to be used as centerpieces when entertaining guests and for special occasions. Flloral centerpieces guest ant homes, parties and weddings. Tablescapes illuminate innovative and fantasy table settings to delight and inspire.
Photography Garden: Flower and landscape photographs taken by local amateur photographers are featured in this popular exhibit. The hands-on Workshops include daily “Potting Parties.” Show visitors can plant and take home their own foliage.
Theme Gardens showcase the creations of top landscapers and designers, along with the latest in horticulture. The Chicagoland Flower and Garden Show relies on the creativity and efforts of professional garden buildings. The list of professional landscapers and contractors includes: Chicago Botanic Garden – Gardening Live, Aquascape, Rich’s Foxwillow Pines, Leisure Woods, Cypress Group, Inc., English & Sons Landscape, The Barn Nursery, Triton College, Synthetic Turf of Illinois, Extreme Pools by RickRock, Coast to Coast Hot Tubs – The Ultimate Backyard, Krimson Valley Landscaping, LGB Model Railroad Club of Chicago – Railroad Garden, Sylvia’s Flower & Hoe Flower Market Garden and American Institute of Floral Designers.
The Stephens Convention Center is near O’Hare International Airport, at 5555 N. River Road. The convention facility has plenty of parking, as well as mass-transit and access to major expressways. The convention center has a convenient location, surrounded by fine hotels and restaurants.
