If your favorite celebrity endorses a presidential candidate does that really make you want to vote more for that candidate? Nowadays, there are tons of celebrities that come out and endorse the presidential candidates. Celebrities do not lead the everyday life though. They can’t fully understand what the “blue collar” worker goes through in life? Most celebrities do not have to worry about money or healthcare costs. With that being said, do the celebrities” endorsements really help? I don’t think that they do. Yes, some people may see that Oprah is backing Barack Obama and think they should then vote for Obama because she is. Most intelligent people who do their research about the presidential candidates will not be swayed by the celebrity endorsements. The will not even figure the endorsement into their picking of a candidate.
Let’s take a look at some of the celebrities that are endorsing the presidential candidates this year.
Barack Obama is endorsed by Oprah Winfrey, Scarlett Johansson, George Clooney, Will Smith, Halle Barry, Jessica Biel, Matt Damon, Jamie Foxx, Tom Hanks, Tiger Woods, Eddie Murphy, Tyra Banks, Chris Rock, Forest Whitaker, and Brooke Shields. I’m sure there are more also.
Hillary Clinton is endorsed by Barbra Streisand, Martha Stewart, Magic Johnson, Rob Reiner, Steven Spielburg, Ted Danson, Sally Field, Carly Simon, Jack Nicholson, Joy Behar, Ron Howard, Danny DeVito, Tony Bennett, and Jerry Springer.
Republican endorsements are a lot harder to come by. Most of Hollywood are democrats but there are the few that are supporting John McCain. They are Sylvester Stallone, Curt Schilling, and Jerry Bruckheimer.
Now, do seeing any of those celebrities endorsing a presidential candidate make you want to run out and vote for that candidate? Don’t get me wrong, everyone is entitled to their opinion and celebrities should be able to back who they want, but it should not matter to the voters. On voting day this November, people need to remember to think for themselves and not be persuaded by their favorite actor or singer. Start looking at literature on the candidates now. Pick a candidate that supports the things that you do. There are plenty of websites out today that you can enter in information on your views and they will tell you which candidate most closely matches your views. I definitely recommend doing that if you do not have much time on your hands to research each candidate. Remember, voting is your opinion, not your favorite actors and actresses.
