Since its release in late 2007, Call of Duty 4 has become one of the best-selling and most popular shooters ever, doing what many though impossible and actually giving the behemoth known as Halo 3 a true run for its money. You can read my online tips for the game here.
While many people can’t get enough of the game and stay up all hours of the night playing it, there’s no denying that the action has gotten a little stale for some people due to the lack of new maps. The game’s developers are finally giving the people what they want in mid-April, however, with the hotly-anticipated release of the Call of Duty Map 4 Map Pack #1.
This pack is expected to include 4 maps which may not seem like a whole lot but will actually provide many hours of new game play experiences due to their expected depth and multitude of subtle nuances.
The pack will be available on the XBox Live Marketplace as well as the Playstation 3 network and will be at available for a price of 800 Microsoft Points if all goes well. Microsoft Points can be purchased either by buying a card or over the XBox Live service.
Here are the rumored maps:
Broadcast -This map is based on the level “Charlie Don’t Surf” from the single-player campaign in the broadcast station portion of the level. This level is supposedly being completely-reworked and should include many new touches and areas in addition to what you see on the single-player level. There are plenty of floors to run around on and windows that people can aim through so it will be hard to find cover on this map.
Chinatown – This inner-city map is a re-worked version of a map from Call of Duty 2 but will feature updated graphics and textures so as to blend in seamlessly with Call of Duty 4’s impressive graphics. It features lots of roads and buildings to fight through and should offer many different types of combat styles.
Creek – Players have been begging for a proper sniper map and this looks to be it. It will be much bigger than Overgrown or any other Call of Duty 4 map and should be ideal for long-range battles with its tall grass and rolling hills. Players can try to fight with a regular assault rifle but it will be tough on this level unless you catch someone by surprise.
Killhouse – Based off of a boot camp, not much is known about this level as of yet but companies often like to keep some info close to the vest before releases so as to add to the intrigue. This one should be interesting regardless and feature lots of military obstacles to move through.
If all goes well, these maps should be just enough new content to keep things fresh and keep players coming back to one of the most popular online shooters console video games have seen in years.
