For several years now, I have been aware of the many varieties of Barber Foods (R) frozen chicken entrees. Almost every week, at least one of the local supermarket circulars that arrive in my mailbox features Barber Foods (R) frozen chicken entrees on sale. I have been intrigued by these interesting- looking frozen chicken entrees for quite some time, but never actually tried eating any of them. Until two nights ago, that is. I had gone to Stop & Shop to purchase some milk, soda and bread, but like always, somehow I ended- up in the frozen food aisle.
I admit it, I am a huge fan of frozen foods, so much so, that I even enjoy browsing in the frozen food aisles of supermarkets, checking out all of the temptingly- packaged items. While perusing the myriad frozen dinners on display, I happened to notice that Barber Foods (R) frozen chicken entrees were on sale. Since I was still unsure of what to have for dinner that evening, and I really wanted to try something new and/ or different, I decided to finally try the Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Breasts- Cordon Bleu Style. Their Cordon Bleu style stuffed chicken breast entree is one of Barber Foods’ most well- known and largest- selling types of frozen stuffed chicken entrees.I purchased one 11 ounce box of this product, which contains two frozen stuffed chicken breasts. For the uninitiated, Chicken Cordon Bleu is essentially a dish comprised of a breaded chicken breast stuffed with slices of cooked ham and cheese, which is usually Swiss cheese.
The 11 ounce package of Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu features two good- sized, lightly- breaded, uncooked chicken breasts, which are folded- over in somewhat- oblong, croquette- like fashion. I must repeat the word uncooked. Prior to purchasing this frozen entree, I thought that the chicken breasts were fully- cooked, like many types of frozen foods. According to the manufacturer’s cooking instructions, it is recommended that Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu be cooked in a conventional oven at 425 degrees F for at least 28 minutes and/ or to a minimum internal temperature of 165 degrees F (measured by a meat thermometer).
For various reasons, microwaving of this product is not recommended. Following the manufacturer’s directions, I cooked both of the stuffed chicken breasts on a baking sheet. Instead of cooking them at 425* for 28 minutes, I cooked them at 375 degrees F for approximately 40 minutes. The mouth- watering aromas given- off by the Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu was absolutely fabulous. Even with my background as a culinary school graduate with many years of restaurant cooking experience, I would be hard- pressed to be able to create an equally delicious- version of Chicken Cordon Bleu. As the Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu was cooking, I prepared some instant rice and canned vegetables. Being a big fan of sauces, I also whipped together a simple sauce by heating some Cream of Chicken soup accented by some garlic powder, onion and butter.
By the time the Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu was ready to eat, my entire apartment was filled with the delectable aroma that the frozen entree provided. The stuffed chicken breasts lost very- little size during the cooking process and they were quite attractive in appearance. The breaded coating was deeply- golden brown, with just a hint of the delectable cheeses oozing- through. When I plated the stuffed chicken breasts alongside the cooked rice and vegetables, the resulting entree was pretty- as- a- picture. As soon as I pressed into one of the stuffed chicken breasts with a fork, I was amazed at how tender it was. It was obvious that no knife was needed to cut into this tasty stuffed chicken breast. Upon first bite, I tasted a combination of delicately- seasoned breading, succulent chicken breast, flavorful cooked ham and a blend of American and Swiss cheeses.
Amazingly, these chicken breasts taste remarkably fresh and possess the unmistakeable texture of authentic chicken breast meat, as opposed to the “mystery meat” texture often found in other frozen chicken entees. All of the ingredients in the Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu entree are real, fresh and very tasty and work well together. This frozen entree tastes so good, that I would undoubtedly serve it to dinner guests, with no compunctions. The combination of the Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu frozen entree, rice and vegetables was so good, that I ended up eating one full stuffed chicken breast and half of the other. Based upon my experience with their Chicken Cordon Bleu entree, I can’t wait to try some more of the numerous chicken entrees that are available from Barber Foods (R). Nutritionally, these frozen stuffed chicken breasts contain 300 calories, with 150 calories from fat, per 5- ounce serving. The suggested retail price of Barber Foods (R) Stuffed Chicken Cordon Bleu is very reasonable and they are frequently on sale. This product is normally in- stock at food retailers everywhere.
