Throughout the year there are several events that you and the entire family can enjoy. Many of the elementary students in the area go during school. In fact my daughter was awarded for a picture that she colored a couple of years ago, during one of their events. Her drawing was on display for one of the art shows that they have there.
The purpose of ArtBreak is to bring together diverse arts and the appreciation of arts to the community and visitors. The Shreveport Regional Arts Council or SRAC is responsible for funding the ArtBreak program with about $525,000 annually to fund the arts and the organizations that are involved. ArtBreak developed in 1976 and is still going strong. The SRAC believes in the importance of the arts and distributing the knowledge of arts throughout the community and to visitors that come.
There are five basic arts that the ArtBreak program support and teach. These arts are dance, theatre, visual, literary and music. As basic arts, the program believes that these are the main important forms of art in education. They present the importance of learning these skills so that the artists can develop the necessary skills and training to master these arts.
Other forms of art for the student are social studies, history, math, language, arts and science. These are important for students to teach them decision making skills as well as critical thinking and also reasoning techniques. There are seminars and labs that assist in these areas to help better the students and also teachers as well.
There is a building where the arts are explored in sections and there are events that are happening in the month of August. There is a place for family hands-on learning, called the Family-Fun-A-Torium. There is something for everyone at the ArtSpace center.
