With new forms of entertainment constantly being introduced into society, one hobbie that remains popular is the sport of bowling. The seemingly simple game involves knocking down a set of ten pins with a large bowling ball. This game is still actively being played at the popular Holiday Bowl located in Groton, Connecticut.
The Holiday Bowl has been around for years and even NBA basketball stars like Vin Baker has bowled there. There are around 40 lanes of actions, with 20 lanes on each side of the building. The center of the bowling alley provides the cashiers, an arcade, Pro Bowling store, and a concession stand.
The lanes are nicely built and appear to have been kept up over the years. Every lane features easy access bumpers for beginner bowlers and none of the lines or arrows have been worn or faded. The pins also all set up nice and rarely fall before a turn begins.
If you do not own your own bowling shows, the rentals are good quality, without much ware and the women’s shoes are practically brand new. Holiday Bowl also has a great selection of balls ranging from all different weights, finger sizes, and colors. Even if the lanes are packed with bowlers, you can usually find the right ball for your needs.
Other than a regular bowling game, the Holiday Bowl offers many different leagues year round, and special birthday party sessions for children. One of their most popular events is the Cosmic Bowl, which is held almost every night of the week. The Cosmic Bowl features flashing lights, disco balls, glow in the dark pins, and music blasting throughout the whole building from 11pm -2am. When you purchase an admission to Cosmic Bowling, you can bowl unlimited all night long and participate in other games like the limbo, mini-golf, and a raffle.
A lot of bowling can make you hungry and the food choices at the Holiday Bowl can almost rival any restaurant. Instead of just offering things like French fries and cheeseburgers (which they do have), there is an expanded menu full of delicious items like nachos, quesadillas, potato skins, and a lot more. You can have a full meal while you are bowling and even dessert! No food or drinks from the outside is allowed into the Holiday Bowl, but the prices reasonable enough that you can afford to eat there.
The only downside of the Holiday Bowl is the prices. Regular games and shoes are around 3-4 dollars, so for you and a couple of friends to just bowl two games, you would have to pay more than twenty dollars. This can get a bit pricey, so check the place for their bargain bowling and cheaper rates.
Other than the prices, the Holiday Bowl in Groton, Connecticut offers great food, great fun, and a great atmosphere to showcase your bowling skills.
